So I saved this one for in honor of the ROT Rally this weekend. I know ROT is usually about Harleys, but I think if you’re really trying to capture a 70′s vibe, Honda CB750 choppers were perfect. This was a challenging painting, involving colors I don’t use often, but I had so much fun doing it. PS, the dirt track zombie is still in the works.
Check the store for $20 limited edition prints-thanks for looking!
I guess this is more of an “Art Apart” post. Louis Wain was a painter/ illustrator best known for his large-eyed anthropomorphised cats. In later life, his mental health deteriorated due to schizophrenia, which some believe was brought on by exposure to the cat-borne brain parasite toxoplasma gondii. In relation to his growing illness, his art took on a vibrant, psychedelic looks. This video shows a chronological view of that process.
A jazzy re-telling of “The Three Little Pigs”. It’s funny because I don’t think I would’ve gotten interested in things like jazz and Beat culture if it wasn’t for old Looney Tunes cartoons. Enjoy.
An alchemy-based page from the sketchbook. The owl lady head is now “Sofia” in the Store ; not sure if the others will make it to the finished painting stage. I think that’s kind of the purpose of keeping a sketchbook-throw down as many ideas as you can when they come to you. Thanks for looking!
Having young kids, I get to watch a fair amount of cartoons on the weekends. I have to say, nothing is quite as cool as this Beatles cartoon from the late 60′s. Awesome animation and psychedelic lyrics trump toy product placement any day.
One of my discoveries at SXSW this year, James Blake creates a blend of real dub, not dubstep and heartfelt singer songwriter lyrics. Incredible live set-you could feel the bassbin vibrations through Stubbs. I highly recommend checking out his other stuff and from the reaction of the crowd, this guy is going to be huge.
Caught these guys last night with Parkway Drive and The Warriors. They had incredible energy live and sold me completely. Definately worth seeing live- check their Myspace page for their tour info:
So my computer is still in the shop, so no site update today. I’m hoping to have it back in a few days with new pics in the gallery and a (large) print in the shop. For now, here’s a new video from Shogun Audio’s Icicle for his track “Dreadnaught feat SP MC” with anime from Gundam Seed. Bangin choon.
